Upcoming Training

2024 CMO regional training have ended for this year. We encourage elected officials and municipal personnel to join ALM at the remaining events scheduled for this year. Looking forward, ALM will host four regional orientation conferences following the 2025 municipal elections.

Thank you ALM membership for the dedication to expanding your knowledge of best practices and the fundamentals of municipal government. Stay tuned for future training opportunities.

Earning the professional designation of Certified Municipal Official prepares elected officials to serve their citizens and help create better communities. This designation requires 10 credit hours of required and elective coursework (Core Curriculum) and 30 additional credit hours by attending League events approved for CMO credit hours. Strengthen Your Core: Fundamentals of Municipal Government qualifies as four (4) elective core curriculum hours. Additionally, the League recognizes, commends and awards municipalities where the mayor and all councilmembers are Certified Municipal Officials thereby distinguishing the municipality as a Certified Municipality. This designation represents the mayor and all councilmembers have completed a minimum of 40 credit hours of formal training on municipal government conducted or endorsed by the Alabama League of Municipalities.

The Certified Municipal Official Training Program offers LIVE webinar training and ANYTIME training to expand the educational reach to our member municipalities. For mayors and councilmembers, webinar training and successful test completion(score of 70% or better)on material presented earns credit hours in the Core Curriculum, Basic, Advanced or Emeritus programs. Ask questions during the live training or submit questions by email to our legal staff following a live or anytime training. Our in-person League events are valuable, and we’ll always offer them, but online and anytime training will have a place too. We think you will find the addition of webinars a helpful resource to provide training for elected officials and municipal personnel. We hope to “see” you online soon!

How it works:

  • Watch for the online training schedule through ALM’s website, E-newsletter and E-Blasts.
  • Register for a training. Receive webinar credentials and reminders to the email on the event registration. Check spam, junk or clutters folders if emails are not received in the registrant’s inbox.
  • On the day of training, click the link in the email to join the webinar.
  • Following the webinar, receive a link to the recorded training for reference.
  • Registration Fee: $45.00 - Payment required with credit card at time of registration
